Statement of Purpose
The purpose of the Learning Light Adult Development Program is to provide high quality day program services to adults with developmental disabilities. At Learning Light, the foundation is dedicated to education and incorporates this idea into the Adult Development Program. By specializing the individuals program and teaching approaches tailored to the needs of each consumer, we give each person the chance to reach his or her full potential and function at their optimum in the community.
The program is designed to provide an environment that is creative, consistent, and that encourages growth. The program recognizes individual dignity through providing a setting in which an individual can experience dignity of risk. Activities participated in during the day are structured to allow maximum participation at a minimum ability.
Our philosophy is : Each person, regardless of his or her limitations is an individual of worth and dignity. Through respect and consideration, he or she, shall be afforded the opportunity to reach his or her full potential.
Who We Serve
The Learning Light Adult Development Program serves persons with developmental disabilities who are over 21 years old and are consumers of the Regional Center.
The program is designed to serve consumers with a diagnosis of severe to profound mental retardation. It is expected that most of the consumers may also have a physical disability, autism, or a neurological disability. The consumers may also have on-going self-help needs in areas such as toileting or feeding. The program is also designed to meet the needs of those consumers that are non-ambulatory and non-weight bearing. We also are able to accommodate those consumers that need to be out of their wheelchairs and those consumers that need to be repositioned.
Our Program
At Learning Light Adult Development Program training is provided in the areas of self-help skills, personal care, social skills, community skills, pre-vocational and recreational/leisure skills. Consumers may participate in art classes, exercise classes as well as gardening or janitorial training. Each day is structured to allow consumers to participate in a variety of activities that stimulate and assist the consumer in increasing their level of independence.
Our staff to consumer ratio is 1:4 and can vary depending on the need of the consumer.
Transportation services are available. Staff provide transportation to and from the consumer's home.
Program Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
