In my previous two posts, I discussed the first five states
of consciousness. These are Sleep, Dream,
Waking, Transcendental and Cosmic Consciousness. Cosmic Consciousness is a state of being in
which the individual has purified his or her nervous system to the point where
it no longer harbors stress or stains. Under
such liberated circumstances, we spontaneously act in accordance with all the
laws of nature and no longer make mistakes.
This is a very peaceful and serene way to live life. However, the story doesn’t end there.
An important law of nature one must always remember is that evolution never ceases. This begs the question - what lies beyond Cosmic Consciousness? Before answering that let me first delve a little deeper into the experiences of Waking and Cosmic Consciousness. In Waking State Consciousness, the state in which most people spend their lives, we are ruled by our passions and desires. They overshadow every aspect of our life. We are constantly striving to fulfill our desires. Until they are satisfied we experience frustration. Once we accomplish what we set out to do we feel great joy and pleasure. The problem is that our desires prevent us from knowing our true nature and rediscovering our source. These longings lock us into the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. Enlightenment is the only escape. With the coming of Cosmic Consciousness, we are free. We gain control of our desires and are able to exercise complete free will. However, in Cosmic Consciousness we no longer experience the heightened joys of sensual and material life. We become detached from everything. This is not to be confused with depression, a state in which there is no joy. Enlightenment is pleasant, but separate and dispassionate. If one achieves Cosmic Consciousness yet continues a daily practice of meditation and contact with Transcendental Consciousness, she or he will eventually arrive at the Sixth State of Consciousness. This is called God Consciousness. In God Consciousness the individual perceives the Divine in all things. I’m not just talking about seeing God in flowers or children’s faces. In God Consciousness one would perceive the face of God when looking at litter on the side of the road or graffiti on the side of a building. The profoundly blissful joy of our Divine nature becomes an ever present characteristic of life. One truly lives in a constant state of effervescent delight and innocence. Then, the full glory of human existence begins to unfold because we live life in freedom coupled with all the joy and passion of Divine ecstasy. That is the power of God Consciousness.
